A lot of applications of embedded Linux require to meet some kind of real-time constraints. Depending on the actual application, these constraints can be met with a standard Linux kernel (especially with kernel 2.6), with some patches to improve the responsivness of the kernel, or with a real-time module that replaces (partly) the Linux interrupt handling and provides own real-time tasks. For this last approach normally RTAI is used.
RTAI requires its own device drivers for devices with real-time interrupts.
While RTAI is not any more supported for the ARM architecture, Xenomai has split off from RTAI and provides most of the classic RTAI API with ARM support.

Based on the actual application, vollmann engineering provides advice for the best approach to meet the given real-time constraints. Such advice is covered by a base support package or pro support package.

If required, vollmann engineering provides customized source code and images including specific real-time patches (e.g. the preemption patch or Xenomai/RTAI).
And as part of it's Linux drivers support vollmann engineering provides drivers for Xenomai/RTAI.

If your real-time requirements are more special, vollmann engineering will be happy to provide you with a custom offer specific to your needs. Please just send a request to Colibri info.
